Drawbacks
While Surfshark offers a wide range of features and is generally well-regarded in the VPN market, it does have a few potential drawbacks that potential users should be aware of:
- Speed Variability: As with all VPNs, using Surfshark may slow down your internet connection to some extent. Although Surfshark is generally known for its good speeds, these can vary depending on the server you're connected to.
- Limited Advanced Configurations: Although Surfshark is user-friendly and easy to navigate, it may not satisfy users who seek more advanced configurations and detailed settings.
- Inconsistent Netflix Unblocking: While Surfshark generally works well for bypassing geographical content restrictions, some users have reported inconsistencies when trying to access Netflix libraries in certain countries.
- No Free Trial: Surfshark did not offer a free trial, although it did have a 30-day money-back guarantee. This might be a drawback for users who prefer to try out a service before committing to a subscription.
- Limited Audit Information: Unlike some other VPNs, Surfshark had not released detailed, independent security audit results, which could be a concern for those looking for third-party verification of the service's security claims.
- Newer Service: Compared to some other VPN providers, Surfshark is relatively new (launched in 2018). While it has quickly established a strong reputation, it does not have the long track record of some competitors.
