In 2015, co-founders Ben and Filip embarked on a mission to address the challenges of modern parenting. They were concerned about the effects of excessive screen time on young children and sought to create a solution that would promote learning, creativity, and imagination.
Inspiration from Maria Montessori
Ben's experience with the Montessori nursery inspired him to incorporate principles of child development into their solution. Maria Montessori's emphasis on independence, physical objects, and hands-on learning resonated with Ben and Filip.
A Screen-Free Audio Device
The duo envisioned a connected, screen-free audio device that would allow children to explore music, stories, and educational content using physical smartcards. With no prior experience in hardware or industrial design, they began prototyping and testing their idea.
From Prototype to Product
In 2016, award-winning industrial designer Tom joined the team, helping to transform their prototype into a refined product. The Yoto Player was launched on Kickstarter in November 2017, achieving full backing in just a few days.
Evolution and Growth
The first-generation Yoto Player was produced and fulfilled throughout 2018. However, Ben and Filip continued to gather feedback and design a new, improved version. The latest Yoto Player boasts enhanced design, integrated battery, stereo sound, Bluetooth connectivity, and multiple play modes.
A Growing Library of Content
The Yoto Player is complemented by an expanding library of content, featuring renowned authors like Julia Donaldson, Roald Dahl, and Judith Kerr. The platform offers a diverse range of children's audio, music, podcasts, and radio shows.
A Mission to Inspire Imagination
Ben and Filip's journey with Yoto is far from over. Their mission remains to help parents inspire creativity and imagination in children through audio, while minimizing screen time.
A Message from Ben
